Days 1-6: Los Angeles

Did not expect my blog to be blocked in China, so I’m playing a little catch up now that I’ve finally figured out how to bypass it.

Before I actually left the country, I took a short stop in Los Angeles and visited my sister and took a little vacation before my vacation. The temperature in Minneapolis and Beijing are pretty similarly cold, so LA was a nice break to warm up with some nice sunny 80º F days.

While in LA, I tried to take it as easy as possible considering the travel marathon I was about to face ahead of me. The weeks leading up to my initial departure from Minnesota were incredibly stressful and I was barely able to sleep the last week as I arranged all my final affairs. LA offered a nice break where I was able to unwind a bit, catch up on sleep, and finish up some of the loose ends of my trip.

My sister took me out to do some hiking in the foot hills of Malibu and to lay on the beach for a little while, and we made a stop in Korea Town for some good Korean BBQ. With the melting pot of immigrants living in LA, I could have probably just stayed here and had authentic food from almost anywhere in the world.

After a refreshing break, I was off to the airport to begin the actual international part of my trip.
